May 7, 2013 Entry Way Modernization
A long-standing service of your Long Branch Civic Association has been to maintain the two entry way signs – one on Braddock Road and the other on Guinea Road. To improve maintenance and modernize these areas we are considering reducing the “footprint” of flowers, bushes and trees in the immediate area around the signs. However, over the years many people have contributed to beautification of these areas and we do not want to remove or re-arrange plants that may be significant to someone. We do not know the full history of the entry way areas.
If you have comments, concerns or ideas about maintenance and modernization of the entry way sign areas or desire to participate in this project please reply to this email by 14 May.

April 30 2013 Dog Do's and Don'ts
Your LBCA has been made aware of a situation in which an unleashed large Long Branch dog caused an incident involving a smaller dog and its owner. It is believed the incident was reported to the Police.
In Long Branch you should always feel safe to walk, jog, bike and escort your dog for walks. That’s one of the benefits of living in Long Branch and it contributes to the value of our properties. The vast majority of people are “dog courteous.” Unfortunately, some need to be reminded of parts of the Code of Fairfax County.
The Code of Fairfax County Article 2, Section 41.1-2-4 says: "No dog shall run unrestricted, as defined in 41.1-1-1* in the County. Any person who is the owner of a dog found unrestricted in the County shall be in violation of this section. * "Unrestricted" is defined as: "Not under the control of the owner or his agent either by leash, cord, or chain or primary enclosure when off the property or premises of the owner or custodian. An electronic device does not qualify as a leash, cord, or chain."
There is a companion section in the Code of Fairfax County that addresses another dog "issue" -- dogs causing unsanitary conditions, also known as the Pooper-Scooper law. Section 41.1-1-2-6 says: "It shall be unlawful for the owner of any animal or animals to keep such animal or animals in such a manner as to cause unsanitary conditions. The owner or custodian of any dog shall be responsible for the removal of excreta deposited by such dog on the property of others, including public places."
We are a “Village” and dogs are a welcomed part of our “Village.” Incidents than reflect badly on any dog owner in our neighborhood reflects badly on all of us - as property owners or otherwise. And remember – dog incidents can be harmful to kids!
Help us help us!

24 April 2013 The State of Long Branch
From Your Newest Long Branch Civic Association President - Jim Hawkins
Our Long Branch neighborhood property is worth over 200 million dollars. We pay over 2 million dollars in Fairfax County taxes each year. Our estimated household annual income is more than 65 million dollars. Approximately 1000 of us live here.
Your Long Branch Civic Association (LBCA) is your best investment to protect and increase the property and social value of your neighborhood.
We intend to prove it!
For $15 a year your LBCA has:
-painted curbs, maintained two entry ways, caused street lamps to be erected
-provided Neighborhood Watch
-emailed security related notices
-conducted yard sales
-provided the Luminary
-supported multiple social events
-represented our neighborhood to others.
We intend to do even more for you!
We don’t want your money – we want you!
We want your mind, your advice, your involvement, your muscle, your effort, your care. In the past the LBCA has thrived solely upon the extraordinary efforts of people named Karla, Susan, Martha, Roger, Steve, Melinda and a limited, but driven, past cadre of few.
As the newest President of the LBCA I am powerless and ineffective without you - the neighbors. I alone can not accomplish feats that protect and promote your property values. I can not provide you the fun and satisfaction of joining, enjoying and supporting your neighbors.
